New York, NY – The Democracy Amirite? Comedy Night isn’t being stopped by COVID-19. It’s barreling onto screens and into living rooms this coming Tuesday, April 28th at 7pm ET. Hosted by Jordan Klepper of The Daily Show, the special event, benefiting the groundbreaking media organization, The People PAC, will also feature appearances from Hari Kondabolu, Chris Gethard, Jessica Kirson, Nore Davis, David Cross, and a special appearance from United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

“We’re going to flip state legislatures with laughter and great media,” said The People PAC’s Executive Director Mara Gerstein. “Now more than ever, local races need data-driven, radically cost-efficient, and precisely targeted digital media to help underfunded candidates beat the odds, and flip legislatures across America.”

The People PAC’s hyper-local content has helped Democrats flip three chambers—in Minnesota, New York, and Virginia—and break two supermajorities—in North Carolina and Michigan, winning praise from Rachel Maddow and others since 2017. In 2020 they are focused on flipping State Houses in crucial states like Texas, Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

With COVID-19 placing unprecedented restrictions on candidates’ ability to campaign in-person, digital media is imperative for success. Digital messaging will be an essential method for candidates to communicate and connect with voters they need to turn out this November. State legislative campaigns often have small budgets; this swift pivot to all-digital campaigning means some viable candidates in flippable districts will be left in the lurch. The People PAC’s aim is to fill that essential gap.

The People PAC is a coalition of award-winning creatives, passionate politicos, and digital strategists working to make digital media that is data-driven, radically cost- efficient, and precisely targeted to help flip state legislatures around the country.

Tickets for the April 28th event are $100 each and may be purchased here. Money raised will help prepare candidates with media training, video production and editing, and distribute highly-targeted digital content that distinguishes them in their legislative races.

The 3rd Annual Democracy Amirite? Comedy Night is hosted by Jordan Klepper and will feature performances from:

  • Hari Kondabolu: The Problem with Apu & the Netflix special “Warn Your Relatives” Chris Gethard: The Chris Gethard Show, “Beautiful Stories” podcast From Anonymous People
  • Jessica Kirson: The Tonight Show, the View, HBO, & Comedy Central’s “Talking To Myself”
  • Nore Davis: Conan, Two Dope Queens, & Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents David Cross: Arrested Development Emmy winner, Amazon Comedy special “Oh Come On”

The event will also feature a Conversation with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Delegates Shelly Simonds & Josh Cole (VA), & Candidate Ricky Hurtado (NC) will discuss why states matter now, The People's work & campaigning during COVID-19.
